Enrico Polini – From Party Mode to Podiums
How did you get into triathlon?
It all started with a challenge from my then-girlfriend: “Why don’t we run the Zurich Marathon in 2022?”
At the time, I thought it was impossible. I had just come out of the holiday season with more panettone than performance in my system, and my main cardio was... dancing in clubs.
But I started training in January, and by some miracle (and a lot of sweat), I crossed that marathon finish line. It wasn’t pretty — but it was proof. Proof that my body could do more than I ever thought possible.
The transformation was addictive: I lost the party weight, started feeling great, and got hooked on the idea of pushing limits. That’s when a colleague introduced me to the wild world of triathlon… and I signed up for my first middle-distance race in Locarno just before leaving on a round-the-world trip.
What do you like about triathlon?
The suffering. No, really. That beautiful type-2 fun kind of suffering where you question your life choices mid-race, and then feel like a superhero afterward.
Also: the constant pursuit of improvement — not just in swimming, biking, or running, but in mindset, lifestyle, and discipline. It’s life-changing.
What are some of your biggest achievements in the sport?
Completed my first 70.3 before even unpacking my travel backpack.
Earned a slot for both IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in 2025.
And honestly? Just transforming from someone who partied more than he trained into someone who now gets excited about nutrition and recovery routines.
What are your future goals?
To stay healthy.
To keep getting faster.
To win some races.
And… maybe, just maybe, chase that big dream: racing (and placing?) at the World Champs in Kona

A fun fact about me...
I watched Gustav Iden win Kona in 2022 from an airport in Colombia, fresh off a long-haul flight. I was exhausted, jetlagged, and had no idea what I was doing with triathlon. But something clicked in that moment — and now I’m deep in this sport that’s somehow more expensive than all my previous party nights combined.
